- I may as well have re-watched the Brighton game.
- Once again Villa had no right to lose, but somehow found a way.
- It’s impossible to complain about the overturned goal in terms of application of the rules, but VAR in its current form is ruining football.
- Like last week, a controversial VAR call will overshadow the fact that Villa only have themselves to blame for not winning the game comfortably. Defensive mistakes were viciously punished and chances at the other end were squandered.
- Also like last week, Trezeguet misses a sitter only to redeem himself by being awarded a penalty (the difference being this one wasn’t overruled).
- Rough couple of weeks for Watkins, who didn’t have a single shot last week and fluffed his lines from the penalty spot tonight. Watkins has netted six times for Villa, but he’s only scored in three matches out of nine.
- Dean Smith has put his team in position to win the last two matches. The players simply haven’t executed.
- West Ham had two shots on target.
- The good news is that this Villa team is still very good and they haven’t yet faced an opponent that they’re incapable of beating.
- Time to “dust w’ourselves down” ahead of the return of Steve Bruce to Villa Park.
- Up the Villa.
